It is estimated that approximately one-third of the world’s population smokes tobacco products on a regular basis. Many of these smokers are addicted to the nicotine in the cigarettes or cannot quit because they are so comfortable and accustomed to implementing smoking in their daily lives.

Although a single drop of pure nicotine is said to be capable of killing a person, nicotine by itself is not so much the problem as it is the burning of the tobacco mixture. The ingredients and additives included in the tobacco mixture plus the burning is what makes the cigarette so dangerous. The chemicals found in the smoke of a typical tobacco cigarette runs into the thousands, and all of that is inhaled every time you take a puff on the cigarette.

So why should you quit smoking today? Well, for the most obvious reason: your health! Cigarettes cause an estimated 443,000 deaths in the United States alone and an astonishing 5.4 million deaths all around the world. By 2015, estimates show that 6.5 million people all around the world will die from this deadly habit. Cigarette-smoking is the single most important source of premature deaths and preventable disease in America, and that alone should be reason enough to stop that deadly habit today.

Sometimes, life will end rather quickly with a heart attack, but that is not always the case. Usually, the death that results from smoking cigarettes is a long and drawn-out battle. Smokers are anywhere from 4 to 6 times more likely to develop debilitating diseases, cancers of vital organs, and stroke. They are more susceptible to having respiratory problems, including wheezing and coughing. The consequences of smoking on your health is simply too great.

Smokers typically live an average of seven years less than a non-smoker. In seven years, what could you do? You could explore lands that you have never visited before, participate in an event or find a new hobby… possibly even invent the next greatest cell phone next to the Apple iPhone. Think of the time you can spend with family and friends, the people who you love and love you. Imagine the pain and suffering they will feel when you have passed on prematurely.

In addition to living those extra years, you won’t have to deal with the hassle of cigarettes anymore. Think about all those times that you just bought a pack of expensive cigarettes and forgetting it was in your back pocket when you sat down on them. Or the times you put them in your jacket and tossed them in your laundry. Think of how much more liberated you will feel not having to have a lighter and ashtray ready. Think of the time that you will save from all of those unnecessary trips outside to smoke really quickly.

The benefits of living a smoke-free lifestyle are plenty while the benefits of smoking cigarettes are nothing.
