Why Should You Quit Smoking?

Tobacco cigarettes, cigars, and pipes were once a normal, accepted part of everyday life. They were used inside public buildings, public events, inside homes, and even inside churches, and no one ever said anything bad about it. Smokers were able to smoke around children without being chastised for being irresponsible for exposing them to secondhand smoke.
Times have changed, however, and they have changed drastically. Just a few decades later, everyone is well aware and most accept the fact that tobacco products cause disease and kill. They maim and they cripple, and they shorten the lives of thousands upon thousands of smokers and even non-smokers. It is widely known that tobacco smoke emits over 4,000 chemicals, toxins, and known cancer-causing agents and is extremely dangerous for anyone, particularly when they are exposed to the smoke for prolonged periods of time.
Smokers are much more susceptible to developing debilitating diseases and suffering from a premature death. The incidence of coronary disease and lung cancer is significantly higher in smokers than it is in non-smokers. Smokers are more prone to developing respiratory problems, such as asthma and bronchitis, and an infant or child that is exposed to secondhand smoke at such a ripe, young age will suffer because their lungs never develop fully and operate to its true potential.
Smoking is an extremely difficult habit to break because of the power of nicotine. Nicotine is a naturally occurring substance found in the tobacco plant and is actually classified as poison. It naturally repels insects and even some small rodents and can prove to be fatal if enough is ingested at any given time. The mind and the body become dependent of the nicotine, and anyone who tries to quit smoking will have to fight tooth and nail to tell their body they don’t need it.
Quitting today means you are no longer bound by shackles to an addiction that has the great potential to ruin your life. It means you can enjoy living a healthier lifestyle and become more physically active without getting shortness of breath or cough. It means not having to go outside every few minutes to “enjoy” a smoke, which adds up in the long run and takes away time that could have been invested in other more important things, such as family, friends, a project, or a hobby. There won’t be anymore need to deal with ashtrays, lighters, or ash residue falling onto your furniture or burning holes in your clothing. Your home will be much cleaner.
With every cigarette, life is just shortened a little bit more, and smokers typically die seven years sooner than a non-smoker. What could you do with seven extra years or more?
