If you are a tobacco cigarette smoker and you just can not figure out why you can not stop smoking them, here is a list of the reasons why you might not be able to stop:

You enjoy it. That is the bottom line really. There is something about inhaling the smoke that contains nicotine that makes you feel good. It it made you feel bad, you would not likely do it.

It is a habit. Just like eating a snack before bedtime or having desert after a meal, it is a habit. It is a ritual you have made for yourself and for some reason you find it comforting when doing it.

You are addicted to what is in the tobacco. Nicotine is a main ingredient that is addictive to you and it is what makes you get that little buzz that is almost unnoticeable until you try to go without it.

You think it helps you relieve stress. Although it actually makes your heart race faster when you smoke, for some reason you believe it promotes a calming affect for you. What is actually happening is that your body is getting the nicotine that it is addicted to and this is why you feel calmer after you get it.

You think you can not do without it. You have allowed the addiction to nicotine to trick you into believing that you can not do without it. You know you are going to experience great stress if you do not smoke.

This should give you the answers as to why you feel like you can not quit smoking. The next question is can you stop smoking? Of course you can. It is no different than trying to stop drinking alcohol or overeating. There are plenty of ways you can quit smoking, but the main ingredient in any of those ways begins and ends with you. You have to want to quit to begin with and you have to be determined to do it in the end. You can use all of the smoking cessation products in the world, but if your desire to quit is not as strong as your desire to smoke, you likely never will. You have to make up your mind to end the habit. No one can do it for you. It is all up to you to stop smoking just like it was all up to you to start smoking. No one else made you start and no one else can make you stop.
