If you asked a smoker what in the world ever made them start doing it in the first place, most of them would say that it was because their friends were doing it, some were just curious, and some did it just because it made them feel more grown up. If you ask them why they continued to do it they will usually say because before they knew what had even happened they were addicted to them and could not stop or did not want to stop. They might can answer the why did you start question, but it is the why do you keep doing it question is the one they have a problem answering.
All smokers know that it is bad for them and they know that they should quit, but why they do not is sometimes a mystery. It might be simply because they still do not want to stop even thought they know it is no good for them. Some are afraid to even try to quit because they are already sure they would fail. Some have already tried many times to quit and have given up trying because of their failures. Other than those reasons, it is hard to understand why they do not try to quit and continue to try until they succeed. How can you not try to give something up when you know it is probably going to kill you?
Some people do end up being scared into quitting even if they had prefer to continue smoking, they had probably prefer to continue living a little more. It is sad when people have to be faced with a critical health diagnosis in order to stop smoking. When faced with a life or death situation you would be surprised at how many people can put them down and not pick them back up when they know they have no choice. It is like the decision is taken out of their hands.
Will you allow yourself to become one of those that have no choice but quit instead of doing it voluntarily now? You should go ahead and put yourself in the place of someone who has been given the life or death decision whether or not to quit because if you continue to smoke, chances are very good that you will end up there one day so why put it off? Go ahead and accept the fact that you will likely die from some smoking related illness or disease if you do not give up cigarettes. If you quit now you might be able to avoid that dreaded decision later all together. You might be able to avoid any disease at all. Your body might even stand a good chance of repairing itself of the damage that has already been done by cigarettes.
