Normally, surgical interventions are used to treat the condition. However, before you resort to such drastic measures; here are some simple yet effective natural remedies that yield quick results and do not have any side effects.

Dietary Fiber against hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoid id caused due to the bulging, swelling and eventual inflammation of the rectal mucosa. The primary cause of the ailment is undue pressure on the rectal muscles such as the one experienced during bowel movements or even pregnancy. Constipation and problem while passing stools can cause pressure on the rectal muscles; however, increasing your intake of dietary fiber can help to ease bowel movements. The dietary fiber not only helps in the digestion process but also helps to form a bulk of the waste matter. This is then easily purged from the body. There are several sources of dietary fiber such as fruits like apples and oranges and vegetables like spinach, tomato, broccoli and lentils etc. Ensure that you include a lot of raw vegetables and fruits in your daily diet to get the required does of dietary fiber

Water and fruit juices

Not only does water help to keep your body hydrated but also along with dietary fiber it helps to regular bowel movement and improve the digestive process. Bowel irregularity can often aggravate hemorrhoids causing them to bleed. You should consume at least 8 servings of water every day; preferably, you should start and end your day with a glass of water.

Juices of fruits that are high in dietary fiber can be equally effective. For instance, people who consume two to three glasses of orange, grapefruit, apple or carrot juice can control the symptoms of hemorrhoids including bleeding and itchiness.

Topical applications:

There are several herbal remedies which when topically applied can prove every effective in alleviating the symptoms of hemorrhoids such as pain, burning, itchiness and bleeding. Some of these remedies are

Cayenne Pepper: Applying a thin paste of Cayenne Pepper around the affected area is effective against bleeding hemorrhoids

Aloe Gel: Aloe Vera is extremely soothing and its gel can help to alleviate pain and inflammation; it can also prove useful when used against hemorrhoid bleeding.

St John’s Wort: This herb can be applied topically to control the swelling and inflammation associated with hemorrhoids

Echinacea: You can also use Echinacea extract to the affected area to control the itchiness. Although this herbal remedy is quite potent, if you experience your symptoms worsening you should get in touch with a doctor

Make a paste with comfrey and regular vegetable oil; apply this home made cream to the anal area. Comfrey helps to stimulate the immune system and is rich is allantoin; this substance helps in the formation of new skin cells and has powerful healing properties.

Witch hazel is another active herbal ingredient that can be used against hemorrhoids. It is commonly available as an OTC herbal ingredient. To use with hazel in hemorrhoid treatment, soak a cotton pad in it and apply directly on the hemorrhoids. Its superior astringent and cooling properties will not only help to relieve pain and itching but will also constrict the skin and alleviate bleeding.

Another herb that can be applied topically is powdered horse chestnut. This tree bark has several substances that help to strengthen the walls of the blood vessels preventing them from rupturing and bleeding. The anti inflammatory, horse chestnut powder should be used moistened with some water directly on the swollen hemorrhoids

Apple cider vinegar and ice:

Since hemorrhoids are nothing but inflamed veins surround the anal cavity, using an ice pack on the affected area can help to control the swelling and inflammation. Use it several times a day as required to reduce the pain and burning sensation.

Another very effective natural remedy to treat hemorrhoids is apple cider vinegar. The liquid is acidic and acts as a strong astringent and anti septic, preventing the possibility of an infection in the bleeding veins. Apple cider vinegar has to be used directly on the affected area; however, since it is very strong it can burn the rectal mucosa. So, it is essential to dilute it before use. Dilute the cider vinegar by mixing it in the proportion of one part vinegar to three parts water. Apply the warm mixture directly on the swollen veins. The beta carotene in the apple cider vinegar is remarkably effective against infections. You can alternate apple cider vinegar application with ice packs to get almost instant relief from pain.

Oral herbal remedies for controlling hemorrhoids

Use psyllium husk in the form of capsules or add psyllium husk powder to your favorite fruit juice. This will help to regulate your bowel movements and reduce the bleeding, pain and itchiness.

Aloe Vera juice is very effective when used as a stool softener; take it orally to reduce anal pressure when passing stools

Butcher’s broom tea sweetened with honey is another herbal remedy for treating hemorrhoids. The herb has very strong anti inflammatory and vasoconstricting properties.

Vitamin K: You can use vitamin K supplements or consume food items that are rich in this vital nutrient such as blackstrap molasses, Alfalfa and dark green leafy vegetables. Vitamin K helps to stop bleeding and strengthens the blood vessels.

A plant based supplement called HER can also be used in hemorrhoid treatment. If the supplement is not available; you could consume 3000 to 6000 mg of citrus bioflavonoid which will yield the same results.

Another remedy is to use a ht bath or sitz bath to relieve hemorrhoid pain. Make sure that the water does not contain any bath products such as soap or bath salts. If the pain is intense, you can try adding some corn flour to the water before you spend about half an hour in the tub soothing the anal area.

Even if hemorrhoids are treated with surgical interventions; there is always a possibility of the condition flaring up again in future. Using allopathic medicine to relieve hemorrhoid pain, bleeding etc can provide temporary relief; however, these drugs can have serious side effects. On the other hand natural remedies are safe, effective and provide long lasting results.
