Top 5 Tips For Losing Weight

People want to lose weight for all sorts of reasons, and in fact, people put weight on for all sorts of reasons as well. Maybe a poor diet, maybe portion sizes are too big or perhaps even a medical condition.
The advice below has worked for me, so I can only base it on my personal situation.
I eat too much, and I east too much of the wrong thing. Yes I love takeaways, fast food, fizzy drinks and alcohol.
Since hitting 25, all of these things have conspired against me and the weight poured on to the point that I became obese. I tried all sorts of wonder diets, but none worked for more than a month. Sustainability of the diets was always bad, and in the meantime I was slowly gaining more and more inches around my waist.
Then, through talking with a friend, I realised that all that was needed was some slight alterations to my lifestyle. Nothing radical, just slight adjustments.
Here are my 5 top tips – they worked for me and I hope they can work for you as well.
Top Tip 1 – Exercise
Its ok, i’m not going to advocate going to the gym. I did, but like a diet, I could not sustain the effort it needed. So instead, I started doing the easy things. Not taking the lift to the office. Walking to the local shop instead of taking the car. Going for a walk in my lunch hour. Taking the dogs an extra half mile per walk. All little things, but cumulatively they did two things – got me fitter and burnt more calories. Now I don’t even notice the extra effort, and the changes have become habit. Easy.
Top Tip 2 – Portion Sizes
Now I like my food, and I would quite happily stuff it down my throat all day long. Instead of having a radical diet, I simply cut down on the portions I was eating. So for example, I had 3 roast potatoes instead of 6, 1 packet of crisps instead of 3 and one sausage at breakfast instead of 4. The amazing thing is, I really did not miss the extra food. I think in hindsight it was a mental thing. Try it, it really does work.
Top Tip 3 – Drink Water
I wish i was a scientist to explain why water is good for you, but all I do know is that by drinking at least 2 litres a day, I don’t crave sugary drinks, and my skin is looking a lot better.
I know it has better rehydration properties then coke for example, but I honestly do feel fresher after drinking a litre of water in the morning. I also seem to have got rid of the mid afternoon lull I have always suffered from. So yes, definitely drink more H2O.
Top Tip 4 – Chew Food Slowly
A strange one this, but by chewing your food slowly, you do two really good things. You break the food up into more digestible sizes, meanng it won’t bloat you or get stuck in the digestion process.
Secondly, it gives you more of a sense of having a large portion even when you do not. You get a feeling of being full long before you finish the plate – now that never used to happen.
Top Tip 5 – Reward Yourself
Although all these changes are easy, they still should be rewarded once you begin to lose weight. So remember to treat yourself. The more you do this, the more you’ll want to lose more weight.
Good luck.
