1. Evaluate your diet

By simply reducing your caloric intake by 3500 calories per week, you will lose a pound of fat. Easy as that. But be careful – drastic changes in your diet can actually do a lot more harm than good. For a gentler start – try reducing your calorie intake by 300-500 per week, and then slowly build up.

3. Be reasonable

Now that you have set your calorie goal, don’t overdo it. A massive drop in calorie intake, as mentioned before, can be seriously detrimental to your short-term and long-term health in general. Remember that fat loss is not an overnight process.

If you have accumulated pounds of unwanted fat over a period of years, it is quite unreasonable to expect that this fat will simply drop off by the end of next week. It is much better to have a goal of a maybe half a pound of week at first, and then, as your confidence builds and you feel more confident you can increase your target.

4. Don’t starve!!

Starving yourself in order to lose weight does not work under circumstances. The effects of starvation can be dire to your body’s overall health. Your body will go into what is called “starvation mode” and store up anything you eat as fat in order to help you survive. It is an automatic response by your body to help you survive in times of food shortage, and the effects can be devastating – long term damage to your kidneys and liver, headaches, and dizziness are just some of the side effects.

5. Consult your doctor

If you have a balanced diet, you are exercising regularly, and are carefully watching your calories and yet you are still not losing weight, then it might be a good idea to consult your doctor. As well as being able to point out any underlying health issues, your GP will also be able to advise you on the best way to proceed with your weight loss program.

Losing weight is a process that does indeed take time and effort, but the effort does not have to be all-encompassing, and by following the guidelines above you will find that you can lose weight and feel more confident about yourself.
