If you are one of the millions of smokers out there who is desperate to drop the habit, then you probably already know that there are many obstacles on the road to quitting successfully. There are many different things that can prevent you from successfully quitting. Here are some steps and info that can help get some of the obstacles out of the way.

The first thing you need to do is get out of the mindset of being a smoker. This is what makes the difference between quitting and wanting to quit. If you can shake yourself out of the mindset that you smoke, then you will be in the mindset that you do not smoke. A big part of making that happen is to distance yourself from the people in your life that smoke. That is not to say that you should alienate them, but to simply let them know that you cannot be around them when they smoke. This will help you keep away from smoking, and more importantly the temptation to smoke. It is also important that you avoid public places that allow smoking. Any way that you can remove the temptation is good.

The next thing you need to do is take all of your smoking paraphernalia, your pack of cigarettes, your lighters, and your ash trays and just throw them away. This will help you get rid of further unnecessary temptation. It is also important for you to steer clear of the checkout lanes at the super market where the cigarettes are located.

Next, it is important for you to have a friend or family member who does not smoke be there to hold you accountable to your goal to quit. You need to make sure that it is a close friend or family member that can hold you accountable, because they would most likely greater empathize with your goal than a smoker would. However, if you have a friend who is also trying to quit, then you have someone that can also hold you accountable as you compare each others progress.

It is also important to frequently remind yourself of your reasons for quitting. If it is your family, then keep a picture of them with you to motivate yourself. If it is your health, then constantly remind yourself that your life may very well be on the line. These are just some of the things that can put you on the road to a smoke free life.
