The best exercises to get rid of love handles do not actually target the love handles. They do not even necessarily target the stomach area at all. But, let me explain.

The reason so many people have a difficult time losing their love handles is because they try doing exercises that will target them. However, you cannot actually spot reduce fat in your midsection any more you can spot reduce fat on your nose. The trick to losing your love handles is to reduce your over all body fat percentage and exercises that target the love handles or midsection do not put the body through a wide enough range of motion and cause it to exert itself enough to do what you need it to do, burn fat.

You see to burn a single pound of fat you need to burn 3,500 calories. This is a significant amount when you consider the average person only burns about 2,000 in a 24 hour period. To get rid of your love handles you need to burn enough over all body fat to make a difference and, as I said above, ab specific exercises do not put your body through a wide enough range of motion to burn calories in a significant manner.

What you need to do is to turn your body into a long term fat burning furnace by doing exercises that cover a wide range of motion and use multiple muscle groups at the same time. These are exercises like the clean and jerk the snatch, squats, dead lifts and the like.

While compound exercises are the best way to reduce your over all body fat percentage, there is no single best exercise in specific. However, one of the best is the burpee. While there are a number of variations of this exercise its fundamental form is simple. Start in a standing up position and then squat down and fall forward into a push up position, kick your legs back and do a push up. Then jump up from a squat position, stand up and do the whole thing over again.

You can see how this would be very tiring very quickly and the reason is because your body is undergoing such a range of motion. Do this and exercises like these and you will be burning fat like butter, reducing your overall body fat percentage and getting rid of your love handles in no time.
