“How Do I Keep From Getting Sinus Infections?” is one of the most common questions I’m asked. So many people suffer needlessly every day from acute or chronic sinus problems and full-blown infections. Knowing what causes sinus infections can help keep you from getting them. And being cautious of your surroundings and really thinking about what could be causing them can help prevent them.
You may be aware of some things that can cause sinus infections and there are some things you may not know. The most common cause of sinus infections is getting particles of something up into your sinus cavities. For some people it may be old dust they have stirred up working on cleaning up a basement or garage. Or just digging into an old box of papers could do it.
One of the most common causes of sinus infections is fungi. Fungi are mold. Mold is in the air and floats around your house or apartment sight unseen. If you know or ever see any mold in your bathroom or kitchen you want to get rid of it right away.
Do an inspection. Look around your toilet, under the tank, around the floor and under the toilet rim. Look around the shower and bathtub. Check the windows and window sills. Check around your kitchen sink too. You want to get rid of any that you see. There may be some mold growing around it that you cannot see yet. So you want to clean it up carefully and not breathe it in. Use gloves, masks and the proper solutions to remove it. Remove any plants from your bedroom. Plants can grow mold too.
Pollen of course can cause nasal passages to swell and particles can get up into the sinus cavities. So if you know you have pollen allergies you want to avoid it.
If you have smokers in the house make sure you use air cleaners and open windows and doors as much as possible. Try to talk them into smoking outside. Breathing second-hand smoke isn’t good for them either. Third-hand smoke is another concern because smoke is absorbed into the walls and then chemicals are released into the air. Books become saturated with smoke and you can’t get rid of the smell.
So these are just a few of the most important causes of sinus infections to help answer the question “How Do I Keep From Getting Sinus Infections?” Keep your sinus cavities hydrated by drinking lots of pure filtered water, using saline nasal sprays when traveling by air and doing nasal irrigation at home. There is much you can do if you get a sinus infection to cure it with natural sinus treatment at home. Antibiotics are no longer routinely recommended since most sinus infections are not caused by bacteria.
