Simple Cleansing and Detoxification Tips to Maximize Weight Loss

An often overlooked component of creating a healthy lifestyle (and losing excess weight) is cleansing & detoxification. I believe this is a mistake.
Although we do have systems in our bodies designed for detoxification on various levels, unfortunately these systems are no match for the inundation of toxicity our modern lifestyles and environment have created. We could sure use some extra help!
Toxic input triggers the stress response cycle – a myriad of chemical, neurological and hormonal events in the body in response to stress, toxicity and deficiency. Of interest to those attempting to lose weight is the fact that this causes us to get fatter and have a much harder time shedding that fat.
It’s a perfect physiological adaptation to the environment we’ve created. “Perfect adaptation” doesn’t make it feel any better when it’s YOU that is stuck in that cycle, though!
So, what can you do to detoxify and cleanse in order to break that cycle and maximize your weight loss efforts?
Well, if you strolled into a health food store, you would find a variety of cleansing products. That’s certainly a good option, as long as you’ve confirmed that you’re choosing the purest products. You can do a short cleanse for only a few days, or cleanses lasting several months… with many cleansing options in between!
I recommend that you work with an experienced, knowledgeable individual who knows their cleansing programs in order to choose the one that’s best for you at this point in your journey. Please don’t assume that your family doc has all the answers to this one! Your health is far too important to make assumptions like that.
There are many programs, products and recommendations that can aid your cleansing and detoxification efforts and weight loss. For now, here are a couple of my favorite, easy-to-incorporate tips to get you started with your detox efforts and fat-shedding results.
1) Drink lots of pure water throughout your day. Water, in and of itself, is cleansing in nature. You can add freshly squeezed lemon or lime to it for flavor and for some additional detox assistance. The pure citrus is good for this. Try to use real glass or stainless steel for your water containers rather than plastic.
2) Pick one day per week where your focus is to lighten your toxic load. On this day, you can reduce or eliminate some of the most common toxic foods and beverages. Obvious examples are things like junk food, fast food, sweets, pop, and so on. But don’t forget about the negative consequences of eating refined starchy grain-based foods like conventional cereal, bread, pasta, pastries and so on. Refined sugar, alcohol and caffeine are good things to avoid on this day, too.
This is also a great day to simplify your food by not adding all the toxic sauces, dips, dressings, and condiments. The vast majority are loaded with toxic ingredients like high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors and flavors, and trans fats… all of which will sabotage your weight loss efforts.
On this day, stick to real, whole, pure, fresh foods. Keep it clean and simple. Eating less overall would be good, and/or focus on eating lots of fresh produce for a great source of fiber to help your body do some natural “cleansing”!
Of course, drinking more pure water and reducing your toxic intake are GREAT choices to make on an ongoing basis! But let’s start with baby steps!
Drink pure water everyday and schedule one less-toxic day per week. You can do this!
