A number of people would tell you that thriftiness is a virtue beloved by the American people. Another thing which is not perhaps a virtue, but which is nonetheless beloved by the American people, is cosmetic surgery. Now thrift can be extremely good on its own, and cosmetic surgery can be somethign which produces very positive results. However, when you take these two good things and combine them, sometimes the results can be less than stellar.
One reason why going for the cheapest cosmetic surgery possible can be problematic is that sometimes one gets what one pays for. And when one’s body is on the table, and one’s health, appearance and life are on the line, you don’t really want anything but the best.
The recent recession has definitely affected the cosmetic surgery industry. With more and more people feeling that they can’t afford to undergo procedures like liposuction, the numbers of procedures performed in the United States have dropped.
A number of these people who don’t feel that they can afford the prices of cosmetic surgery in America simply don’t get their surgeries. However, some of these people are choosing to go to other countries and get their boob jobs or lipoplasties where they’re cheaper.
Perhaps you’ve seen commercials advertising the new trend cosmetic surgery tourism. In cosmetic surgery tourism, companies provide a patient with travel to and from another country, vacation time and activities and a cosmetic surgery, all for a price which is less than what it would cost to get the surgery in the United States.
A vacation and a cosmetic surgery all rolled into one–it sounds great, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, as good as it sounds, it really is typically not a good idea. There are a number of reasons why cosmetic surgeries like liposuction cost a fair amount in the United States. One is that the surgeons use expensive, top of the line equipment, which helps to promote good results and safety during the surgery. Another is that there are stringent health and safety laws that a surgeon has to follow.
In another country, the rules and laws governing cosmetic surgery could be vastly different, and a lower price could mean corners cut in. And those cut corners could mean bad things for the new appearance that your surgery will provide you and, more importantly, for your health.
This is only one of the problems associated with cosmetic surgery tourism. There are others, including possible language barriers, difficulty getting adequate post-surgical care, and the fact that you really shouldn’t be out vacationing, partying or flying when you’re recovering from a cosmetic surgery. In virtually all cases, it’s better to stay home and get your surgery where it will be safest.
