If you want to quit smoking, there are a lot of ways to go about doing it. However, there is likely only one way that is going to work for you. Since different people are motivated by different things, what motivates one person to stop smoking may not motivate a close relative, friend, or neighbor, so you really have to sit down and figure out what makes smoking appealing to you.

Stop carrying your pack of cigarettes with you everywhere you go. Get used to just not having the pack around you first. When people attempt to quit, they often try to just stop smoking cold turkey and when they find that they still want a cigarette, the physical withdrawals caused by not having the nicotine is enough to cause a panic. So, then you’re going through both physical and mental stress. Just stop carrying the pack on your person or even in your purse. Give it to someone else to carry for you if you have to or put it somewhere away from you so that you have to actually go and get it. This is the first step to breaking both the physical and mental addiction at the same time; it doesn’t put excessive stress on one addiction or the other.
The next step is stop carrying your lighter. Leave it where you leave your cigarettes at first; if you feel like you can deal with leaving it somewhere else, do so.
After that comes barring yourself from smoking in certain areas of your home. So now, not only are you getting used to not carrying your cigarettes and lighter with you, but you also have to deal with not letting yourself smoke.
If you can get through these 3 steps, then you are pretty much home free. The key to quitting is consistency and if you can manage to be consistent with your efforts to quit, you can make it. Don’t let yourself stray from the rules you have set down even once, because if you do it once, you will want to do it again.
