Thinking about a Proform treadmill? Wondering if it’s the right brand for you?

This article will lay out some of the key things you should know before you buy a Proform.

First, some background…

The Proform name has been around for years and is one of the most well-known names in fitness equipment. Proform is owned by one of the largest fitness equipment manufacturers in the world – ICON Health and Fitness.

They are a huge company that also owns name brands like Epic, Golds Gym, Healthrider, Weslo, Freemotion, NordicTrack and Image. So if anyone has the resources to build a better treadmill for less, it’s them.

Next, some history…

A few years back when I began reviewing treadmills, Proform did not have a great reputation. They were seen as an economy brand, with most of their treadmills under $800.

They had poor warranties and only average customer reviews. Frankly they weren’t seen as a great buy.

Then something happened.

Maybe it was the advent of the Internet and the ability for people to leave reviews for each other about their fitness equipment experience, who knows but ICON/Proform seemed to start listening to their customers.

They began a huge push to improve their reputation (in the age of the Internet, a poor reputation gets around fast). They started upgrading their machines, using better construction and longer warranties.

And they really started hitting the ball out of the park – several of their newest models even earned “Best Buy” or other awards from expert websites and consumer magazines.

Proform Treadmills today…

That doesn’t mean of course that every treadmill they make is a 5 star winner. But compared to their older machines, the treadmills they are putting out now are very different – and a huge improvement.

For example the newest models carry everything from specialized cushioning to high powered motors to iPod/MP3 ports to built-in console speaker systems. Many of their treadmills even come with iFit LIVE where you can connect your treadmill to the Internet, track your workout stats, download new workout programs and even run famous trails all over the world using Googlemaps.

There’s even a Proform treadmill that carries a built-in web browser in the console. So you can read your emails, catch up on the latest news or watch youtube videos while you walk. And warranties are longer so you have much better protection for your investment.

And the good news that most buyers don’t realize is that because Proform is still seen as an economy brand, they still have to keep their prices pretty low on these treadmills. So you can find a few real gems in their lineup for great prices if you know where to look.

So the good news is that – while they are still not considered a ‘commercial’ brand – Proform treadmills have vastly improved. They are even considered by some experts to have several “Best Buys” in the lineup.

Personally, if I were on a budget when shopping for my treadmill, Proform is the brand I would choose. Regardless of what you decide to buy, remember to take your time and research before you buy!
