It seems that obesity has become a worldwide problem. In the United States alone, it is already an epidemic and the trend is spreading to many of the more industrialized countries. The natural result of this is the increased demand for weight loss products. Although there are ways by which excess weight can be eliminated, most people opt for the fastest and easiest means available and popping a diet pill is it.
The weight loss industry is perennially booming. There have always been questions regarding the safety and effectiveness of many products yet people continue to buy them. Even with all the information available about the virtues of a high-fiber diet or the numerous health benefits of exercise, most people still seem to favor the use of weight loss supplements. Thus it is pointless to debate on whether or not these products work. Given the fact that weight loss supplements will always have a receptive market, the more pertinent question now is: Which is better to use, prescription weight loss drugs or natural/organic supplements?
Prescription weight loss drugs are backed by clinical tests and its use is regulated. They cannot be bought without a doctor’s prescription. These drugs have a more potent formulation than natural/organic supplements which makes them more effective than the latter. Because they are chemically engineered, prescription drugs should be taken with great caution.
Natural/organic weight loss supplements on the other hand, are safer than prescription weight loss drugs. However, they are generally not as potent although when they are, natural/organic supplements can be just effective as prescription weight loss drugs. They can be bought over-the-counter which makes them easily available to consumers. However, there is also the very real danger of dieters misusing them and this can result in serious health problems. These products are also not backed by clinical tests thus dieters are taking a big risk in taking them. Many people have the idea that anything natural or organic is safe. Not true. There are certain natural ingredients used in such products that can wreak havoc on the health like the extract taken from the Chinese herb Ma Huang and caffeine and caffeine derivatives such as tea.
As far as we are concerned, the answer to the question posed above is: Neither. Both prescription drugs and natural/organic weight loss supplements compromise the health of dieters. Moreover, the fact that popping a pill, organic or otherwise, is such a passive activity which goes against the weight loss principle that in order to burn calories effectively, one needs to engage in regular moderate exercise and combine it with a sensible diet.
This is what making a switch to a healthy lifestyle is all about, something which we strongly believe is still the most ideal way to lose weight.
