If you are one of the millions of smokers out there who has made the decision to quit smoking due to health concerns, then you are probably worried about the pressures and difficulties that you may face as a result of your attempts. Here are some tips and a little bit of info that can help make your goal a bit easier to reach.

The first thing you need to be sure to do is take all of your smoking paraphernalia and throw it away. This means cigarettes, lighters, pipes, tobacco, and ash trays. Anything you have that involves smoking needs to be thrown away. This is a very effective way of removing temptation from your path. It is also important that you steer clear from public places where smoking is allowed as much as possible. If you take yourself out of a smoker’s environment, then you will not be nearly as tempted to smoke. You should also be sure to let any friends you have that are smokers know that you are trying to quit, and that if it is not too much of an inconvenience to them, ask them to not smoke around you.

Your friends and family should also be actively involved in your goal to quit. It is important to have a family member, friend, or both to hold you accountable as you try to quit. This should be someone that you can keep updated on your progress, to see when the last time you smoked was, or to simply talk to whenever your craving for cigarettes becomes strong. This person should also help to remind you why you wished to quit in the first place. Speaking of reminders, it is also important to give yourself time each day to remind yourself of why you are quitting. If you are quitting for your family, then have a photograph in a place where you can find it regularly and look at it briefly. If you are quitting for your friends, then be sure to spend some of the time you would normally spend smoking with your friends instead.

Speaking of time distribution, take any time that you would have used to smoke and replace it by trying to accomplish small tasks. This way you can distract yourself from your cravings. These of course are just a few things that can be done, but they should be very helpful in the long run.
