Reducing or eliminating fat through surgery is becoming more and more popular. Though it seems like the quick and easy way to lose fat and transform your body, it is not always the best choice. Surgery should be a last resort, after diet and exercise over a period of years has done nothing.
The first thing to do is evaluate your diet. We tend to think that a diet is only temporary, where we lower our calories for a few weeks, lose some weight and once the weight is lost they go back to their original diets. This is not a good idea and can cause weight to come back and even possibly gain even more weight. What we fail to realize is that a diet is what you eat every day.
Instead of dieting, you make healthy choices, substituting healthier foods for high fat foods. Use low fat butter, low fat mayonnaise and fat free cheese instead of the regular style, limit bread to 2 slices of whole grain per day and avoid processed and high sodium foods. Eat fresh vegetables and fruit every day, and eat lean proteins such as egg whites, fish, turkey, chicken and beans. Watch your calories as in addition to fat grams. Eventually you will learn to eat this way naturally. Once stabilized on a healthy diet, weekend cheating is allowed if you don’t overdo it.
Exercise is important not only for losing weight but for a healthy mind and spirit. Elevating the heart rate for thirty minutes per day for at least three days per week burns fat and raises resting metabolism. It is suggested that you walk more places than driving, take the stairs versus the elevator and take a walk during lunch break. These are all great ways to keep the fat burning engine going.
A person who does all this but still has fat in hard to lose areas is a good candidate for fat reduction through surgery. Depending on the amount of fat, anything from laser liposuction to something more serious as a tummy tuck, may be necessary. Each has its own risks and costs associated with it. Laser liposuction can be done on an outpatient basis while a tummy tuck is typically done in a hospital under general anesthesia. A consultation with a certified physician is the best way to make a safe decision catered to your own specific needs.
