Smoking cigarettes is one of the worst things that you can do to damage your body, make yourself generally unattractive, and keep yourself broke. People have been trying to inform others about the dangers of smoking cigarettes for decades, but cigarettes are still one of the biggest selling items around the world.
Nicotine is a poison and it is extremely addictive. It is what gets you hooked on cigarettes when you are first starting out. It is the cause of the physical addiction associated with tobacco and going without it after you have been hooked for years can cause withdrawal symptoms to surface. These can be difficult to deal with, but they only last a short period of time.
However, the smoke from the cigarette is what does the majority of the damage to your lungs, not the nicotine or the carcinogens found in the smoke itself. Inhaling the ash of newly combusted material, whether it is tobacco, wood, or anything else, is extremely damaging to your lungs. It coats the cilia that keep your lungs clean and paralyzes them, making them unable to do their job. This is what causes your lungs to turn black.
There are also numerous cosmetic reasons why you shouldn’t smoke cigarettes. The first one is that it causes your teeth to turn yellow. Once this happens, it can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars to make your teeth white again. Not many people have this kind of money, so the best thing to do is to just not smoke.
The next reason is because it makes you stink. The smoke settles into your hair and sticks to it until you wash it again. Since you probably smoke numerous cigarettes during the day and after you wash your hair, it’s always going to smell like smoke. The smoke also sticks to your clothing and causes it to stink, as well.
Smoking is also an extremely expensive habit. For something that is going to eventually kill you, over $1,800 a year for a pack a day habit is ridiculous. Think about it. Can you really justify spending that much money a year on smoking? In a lot of places, that’s enough money to pay rent for 3 months; if you smoke 2 packs a day, it could be 6 or 7 months. How many months of your rent would that cover? How many months of your car payment would that cover? When you stop to think about just how much money you could save if you didn’t smoke, quitting becomes a no-brainer.
