Finding A Good Dentist in Your Area

Debbie Nichols is a Website & SEO Analyst. Learn more about dentistry, and, keeping your office clean and sterile with disinfectant spray from DCA & Sklar Instruments: http://dentalcorp.com/ & http://surgical.sklarcorp.com/

I have discovered that looking for good dentists in any city can be a challenge. Here are some things I learned about how to find a reputable dentist.

The first thing you should do is ask your friends and family members (even co-workers or neighbors) if they can recommend a dentist. Your doctor may even have some suggestions. If you’ve moved to a new city or town and don’t know anyone yet, check with the local dental society or dental school clinic. Also look at the British Dental Association’s directory of members. These sources will yield more reliable results than doing a basic search on the Internet. Narrow the results further by choosing dentists who have been practicing for a long time. Once you have a list of possibilities, cross off dentists that aren’t close you. You don’t want to drive 45 minutes to get to your dentist’s office, especially if you ever have a dental emergency.

With the refined list in hand, it’s time to meet the dentists personally. Going to their office is one of the best ways you can make an informed decision. While there, take note of the cleanliness of the office. Is it well-kept? Do the dentist and hygiene assistants wear gloves and masks? Are the instruments sterilized? Talk to the dentist about your dental history. Do you like his or her explanation of treatments and advice about prevention? Are they consistent with what other dentists have told you? Are your interactions professional and comfortable? Finally, be sure to ask about fees, payment options, insurance, and after-hours emergency care.
