How do we find our selves falling into a state of anxiety and don’t remedy it before it occurs? Symptoms of anxiety! There is always a way to divert them, by changing our focus, changing our physiology like deep breathing, taking a walk or even a short jog, but why do we wait until its too late to take action in diverting it? Have you heard the Metaphor of if you put a frog in water and slowly bring him to a boil he will die but if you drop a frog in boiling water he will jump right out? Same is true of humans, we don’t just suddenly get dropped into a state of anxiety or stress, its a gradual thing that occurs slowly over time.

Upon the first signs of anxiety we need to take defined action to divert it. If we wait until our proverbial pot of water comes to a boil its difficult to stop it. When we see signs of oncoming stress we should make decisions to implement strategies to avert our oncoming anxiety, it isn’t too hard to do, taking a walk or deep breathing never hurt anyone and the time spent doing so is an excellent investment in stress relief.

Another great example of this was when U.S. President Ronald Reagan was in a meeting with then president of the soviet union, Boris Yeltsin at the U.S.capital. After a stall in the meeting Ronald Reagan suggested they both take a walk on the white house lawn. After that walk the two of them came to agreements. Changing your or someone else’s physiology can blow at the proverbial flame under the pot that is on its way to a boil. This is a great way to produce a treatment for anxiety.

Stress can better relieved by increasing one’s water intake as well. Often we are more in need of water than eating, but we mistakenly feel that the body need is food. Substituting water drinking in place of food intake quite often increases metabolism and allows lactic acid to be released. Dehydration is an added burden and may increase symptoms of anxiety.

Realizing these certain truths can save oneself much pain and agony from stressful situations. Anxiety is as much a product of stress as is any other malady like depression. I hope you recognize the symptoms of anxiety as warning signs within you that the boil is coming, but they aren’t difficult to discern: an uneasiness in the belly, shakes, stutters, headaches and dizziness all can be warnings. Pay heed and take actions to avert them.
