When we are trying to lose weight then we tend to want to rebel if we feel the diet we are following is restricting our lives too much. If you are on a diet which makes you cut out everything you enjoy eating and leaves you with only boring food to eat for months on end then unfortunately most people will just crash off it in a few weeks because they miss certain foods too much. However if you have a diet which has a little bit more leeway and does include some tasty treats, or allows you some time off every so often like the Fat Loss 4 Idiots diet, then you are doing to be more willing to stick to it.
The Fat Loss 4 Idiots diet is actually quite an interesting concept. The whole diet revolves around cycles of dieting and then having time away from dieting. So you have an 11 day eating plan it generates for you using foods you tell it you like, then after following that you get a break of 3 days where you can eat whatever you want, then you start the cycle over again.
Yes ok if you pig out and stuff your face the entire 3 days you are probably not going to lose much weight, but if you are sensible and just eat a normal amount of the tasty foods you have been craving for the last 11 days, then I think it is a great way to recharge your motivation and keep you on the diet. It is a lot easier to resist tasty foods when you know that you only have to avoid them for less than 2 weeks, as opposed to staying away from them indefinitely like on other diets.
If the diet you are following does not allow you to take a break then consider adding one in yourself. I think taking 3 days every 11 is maybe a bit generous, but if you took a weekend off every 3 weeks that might be a bit better. I find that going out with friends for meals is always tricky when you are dieting, so these breaks are a fantastic time to do just that and eat whatever food you want. Then once the break is over you will have satisfied your cravings and you can launch yourself back into the diet with renewed vigor!
Another way to keep your motivation up is to give yourself targets to aim for and then buy yourself presents when you reach them. One of the best targets you can start off with is losing 7lbs of weight, half a stone, when you get there then treat yourself to some new clothes for your new figure, or a gadget or spa weekend etc, and then start planning what you will do when you reach your next goal. It sounds like a very simple concept, but it is powerful because you will keep pushing hard to get your next gift!
