Dieting and crash diets have seemed to take the best of our ladies. Women in their prime of life are getting hooked to fad diets or to fear the worse junk foods and taking care of the nutritional aspect of their diet and health consequently which affects the weight of new born later too.

Being slim does not mean being healthy. A review of the health supplements information service HSIS, has stated the well known fact that the ladies are not just into nutritional foods. Most of them do not know have an idea about the recommendations of a proper balanced meal for them.

In this research, Dr Carrie Ruxton and researcher Dr Emma Derbyshire of Manchester Metropolitan University reviewed a hundred and ten published papers for the nutrition bulletin on womens health to understand the food habits of women. The results were expected, but came with a pinch of surprise too.

The researchers found out that binging on alcohol and too much of easy food is what our ladies are living on! The pensioners ,age group of 50 to 64 years and most of women lack vitamin D though, the middle age women were seen more inclined towards healthy and nutritional food.

The research reveals that one in four women literally starving to get themselves that envious figure and not getting adequate zinc, 16 per cent deficient in iodine, 30 percent lack in potassium, and almost half of them did not reach the required levels of iron intake. 50 percent of women between the age group of 19 to 50 are not taking enough iron which is regarded vital in the production of red blood cells. Pregnant women were carrying on the risk of frail bones and underweight children owing to the lack of vitamin D.

They discovered that even at school age, more than half of girls of age group of 11 to 18 years do not take recommended intake of such minerals as magnesium. The diets of reviewed women, in general was characterized by high intakes of salt and saturated fat and low intakes of fruits, vegetables and fiber. The research concluded that nearly 80 percent of women lack the knowledge of proper balanced food and nutrition in their diet.

Even as they get older and are not constrained by the time pressures of work or bringing up children, the diets of women do not improve much. Most people over the age of 65 need more of vitamin D to prevent their bones becoming brittle. Only one third of the women in the age group of 22 to 80 years followed the diet chart and took recommended measures of vitamins and minerals.

Many reasons have been stated for these diet habits of women in this research. Reasons like busy lives, lack of cooking skills or an irresistible craving for fast food have been cited. Pressures to be slim, frail and thin was number two on the list. The researchers expressing their worries said that women should be aware of the nutritional aspect of what they eat and they should know the value of qualitative aspect of their diet. It is going to affect her in her lifespan and in the childbearing years.

The research added to the conclusion that women are inviting the odds and disorders of heart disease, breast cancer, depression and early osteoporosis.

Although this research does not establish any new facts, it speaks loudly about the poor diet adopted by the women worldwide. This research could be given more scope and time to discuss the dietary habits in details as diet control is a complex issue consisting of many factors such as environmental factors lifestyle, income, and inability to buy nutritious food, and some of these factors cannot be under an individual control. Nonetheless, it will be worth considering the choice of the evidence presented rather than deciding the validation of this research.

Women need to understand that diet is fundamentally important across their lifespan. It is important for women to make better choices in their diet to ascertain that they are getting enough minerals and vitamins to guard their health. If they miss out on it sometimes, they must supplement their diet with some multivitamins and mineral tablets. Taking fish oil or Omega supplements is also necessary. Fortified foods make a lot of difference to the health factor and even greater difference is the knowledge of it.

For the starters they can start with eating lots of fruit, vegetables, whole meal bread and wholegrain cereals and a lesser amount of protein rich foods sugars and dairy products.
