With time, alcohol has become as acceptable in nearly all cultures as is eating and drinking wine. From decades ago, nearly all the tribes and cultures had one form of the other of strong alcoholic drink. The only difference between what they used to drink and what we now drink is just that ours are made under more hygienic conditions and probably even tastes better.

There are some traditional brews that would make whiskey and tequila seem like orange juice in terms of the percentage of alcohol in them. Now that alcohol is here with us and most likely here to stay, it would only be fair for you to know the effects of that drink which you so dearly cherish. I will focus on the effects of alcohol on bodybuilder but some of these effects cut right across even to the people who have never heard of the word bodybuilding let alone step into a gym.

First of all, excessive consumption of alcohol is known to greatly damage the kidney and liver. While you may not consider your intake of alcohol to be excessive just remember the drunken guy in a ditch who you always pass by every morning on your way to the office, started off with a casual beer after a long day in the office. It is only a matter of time before that one bottle stops giving you as much satisfaction as it used to.

You gradually progress to two then more and after some time, you’re the dunk guy passed out in a ditch that people pass every morning on their way to the office. Instead of using all your savings on a kidney or liver transplant, take your kids to the best universities and private schools money can get them into.

Testosterone has a really strong and powerful fat burning effect in the body. It is also responsible for the gaining of lean muscle which I’m sure is every bodybuilder’s desire. I doubt whether there’s any person who pays to get into the gym only to leave it when he is fat or even worse, clinically obese.

Alcohol lowers the level of testosterone in your body meaning that these two functions cannot be carried out optimally. Your body needs the muscles to burn the fat, but due to low testosterone levels, it simply can’t build as much muscle as it should and therefore the rate of fat burning is also lowered quite significantly. The fact that alcohol is full of empty calories also doesn’t help the situation a single bit.

This is because the body now uses nearly all its energy to burn down these useless calories instead of burning the fat around your thighs. As if things cannot get worse, it increases your appetite so you end up eating a lot of food that your body will be unable to burn and so converts all of it into fat that is stored as fat, which of cause was the last thing you wanted.
